For the month of May, we will collect the communion rail offering for the UMC Global Ministries project called "Living Gifts: Heifer International." Heifer International believes ending world hunger is possible and within our grasp with help from its partners, such as the people of the United Methodist Church. For decades Methodist churches have contributed to Heifer International which directly helps families to become self sufficient in sustainable ways. Before the start of any Heifer project, the team evaluates and works with the project recipients to seek the best sustainable solution for their circumstances. Fundamental to success, project participants take part in "Passing on the Gift" by providing their animals' offspring to other members of the community. This, along with the training they have received, ensures that a Heifer project creates an ever-widening network of hope, dignity and self-reliance. This process transforms recipients into donors and, at a minimum, doubles the impact of initial investments in Heifer projects.
